SUMMARY:

The northeastern semi-arid region has faced great challenges in relation to
environmental impacts associated with climate change that threaten economic activities, in addition to
change dynamics and productive relationships, directly affecting food production and,
consequently, the food and nutrition security of the populations, interfering in the
achievement of the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals 2 (SDG 2) of the
United Nations dedicated to Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture. O
The objective of this study is to reflect on the impacts of climate change in Lagoa do Piató
in Assu/RN and analyze its effects on the Food and Nutrition Security of the residents
of the quilombola community Bela Vista Piató. The research will be divided into four stages.
First, it starts from a theoretical framework built from a bibliographic research
on the following analytical categories: climate change, dietary patterns, safety
food and nutrition, artisanal fishing communities and fishing activity; in the phase
two, a documentary research will be carried out on national legislation dealing with
Food and Nutrition Security in order to map public policies on
theme and the role of the State. The third phase will be exploratory, using as a method, the
ethnography, which involves the point of view of researched groups on climate change and
changes in food patterns, through intensive on-site work in the “kitchen
community” implemented in the quilombola community of Bela Vista do Piató in 2022.
It will also involve the application of the Brazilian Scale of Insecurity
(EBIA) with a percentage of up to 20% of the 240 residents of the community,
to measure, in association with the national scale (EBIA), the dimension of regular access
and permanent support to the population's food, through the perception and experience of hunger.
Finally, in the fourth phase, it is proposed to present the collected data, associating them with the projections
climate change for the region, analyzing the possible and predictable impacts of changes
in the food consumption of the studied community in an interdisciplinary and
qualitative approach, and the necessary interventions by municipal management to improve the capacity
environmental and climate change of the municipality on the traditional territories.
