This study aims to analyze the economy and the labour market dynamics from the Metropolitan Regions of Natal and Fortaleza, from 2006 to 2020, pointing the main differences between both regions. The reason for such research is based on comprehending how the economy and labour Market dynamics from both metropolitan regions impacted on its metropolization processes, as well as investigating how They relate in comparison to the regional dynamics from the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. The period used for the analysis – 2006 to 2020 – is based on two important movements for both metropolitan economies of Fortaleza and Natal, following the dynamics from the Northeastern Region: 1) 2006 – 2014, moment when Brazil and the Northeastern Region entered in a new economic cycle concerning the expansion of the economic activity, labour Market improvements and tendency to deconcentration; 2) 2014 – 2020, moment When the economy enters a crisis, specially from 2015 onwards, in a ultraliberal inflexion moment, according to RIBEIRO (2017), which was aggravated in 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion presented in the study aims to comprehend which factors differentiate the economy and labour Market dynamics of each metropolitan region and its influence on the different urban dynamics and regional insertions.
