RESUMO:

The following research resides in the discussion about the happening changes in the life housing policy existing in Brazil nowadays, the program “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” (PMCMV). As this research fits in case study, we bring Maruim’s community as an object. The Community reminds the reading from the 20th century at the neighborhood of Ribeira, in the city of Natal, being considered an important area due its socioeconomic relation, for the fishing and handcrafted activity with Canto do Mangue (one of the most important centers of fish commercialization in the town), and symbolic, because of the existence of an architectural and urbanistic landscape relevant to the history of the city. The Community presents characteristics of social vulnerability. All of this under the background composed by an urban land conflict with Natal’s harbor fighting for the territory in which the community was located at, since it has been removed and relocated in São Pedro’s Residential (project subsidized by government incentives, the MCMV), which has allowed the insertion of a new typology of living and of coexistence equipment. In order to construction of this understanding about the happening changes, this search will seek: accomplish the historical construction and characterization of the community concerning the type of inhabitant and habitation existing before the removal; present the current life and living conditions existing in the building. Lastly, under the perspective of the residents, we will systematize the analysis of this changes and perceptions about the topics in discussion before and after the removal.
