RESUMO:

Labor subsumed under capital is a central element in characterizing the capitalist mode of production. Throughout the ages, as the productive forces developed, the ways through which to control capital acquire new outlines. Effectively, the need for fast adequation between offer and demand turns fordist rigor obsolete in terms of pattern to organize labor, which leads to new management models and flexibility rises as a universal value in the rationale of production and services. Digital platforms to mediate services are expressions of a radicalization in this new phase of metamorphoses in professional relationships and how they are controlled. Focusing on workers registered in platforms mediating urban transportation services, the goal of this study is to assess how uber drivers perceive the recent changes in the world of labor as the company (UBER) starts to operate in the city of Natal between 2016 and 2018. We start off from the premise that, in a moment when an intense restructuring of capital is taking place, the new layer of workers (the infoproletariat) from digital services platforms reified the entrepreneurship discourse to the point of seeing themselves ad small business owners, and of distancing themselves from the idea that they are in any way controlled in the process of effecting labor activities due to the longstanding subordination of labor to capital. Semi structured interviews with drivers registered in UBER’s platform will provide the primary data necessary for this research to be developed, and an extensive bibliography, ranging from classic to contemporary authors, aligned with the discussion of the recent changes in the world of labor, will also theoretically subsidize the investigation.
