RESUMO:

Several studies carried out in the southern region of the country on rural family succession have shown that the demographic transition, the aging of the countryside, the intense migration process, possibilities for schooling in the urban environment, greater city-country integration, economic instability in agricultural activities, factors that directly imply the emptying of the rural environment. The transformations that occurred in the last decades in the rural area are relevant and consequently implied in the social relations established in the environment, of work, economic and cultural. Considering this problem, the research proposal for the preparation of the master's thesis consists of investigating the dynamics of family succession in the field, in relation to the perspectives and challenges of rural youth in the municipality of Pedro Velho / RN. As specific objectives, we establish a) to identify the perspectives and challenges of rural youth in relation to the future of the agricultural activity; b) analyze the vision of these young people, in relation to family succession and; c) to reflect the construction of the office from the habitus of farmer and the succession of that office, and; d) understand the perspectives and expectations of the future of the families surveyed. Social reproduction involves, besides the material production of life, the cultural and socio-legal production of social processes and relations, constituting a set of practices, in this perspective the farmer's habitus reveals itself as an (in) conscious construction of a set of knowledges that are transmitted from parents to children in the succession process of the office. As to its objectives, the research is configured as qualitative and quantitative. The oral narratives were constructed from the reports and testimonies of life stories, pondering the powerful elements of the life trajectories of the families interviewed. The qualitative research, of phenomenological origin, undertakes values, beliefs, habits, attitudes, representations, concepts and impresses the deepening of the complexity in human relations. The methodological course is circumscribed by the following stages: 1) bibliographical and documentary research for the composition of the theoretical and legislative referential alluding to the problematic; 2) field research, in which the empirical insertion will be made to survey the young people of the municipality (through the application of a questionnaire with closed questions), identification of perspectives and challenges in the view of the youth and parents (through individual interviews with 5 families of family farmers); 3) Analysis of the data produced during field research. It is hoped that this research contributes to the understanding of the material and symbolic conditions and the dynamics and fluids of the succession process of family agriculture, as well as to enable alternatives of their present and future social, economic and cultural reproduction.
