The challenges of the changes to the city of the urban beaches of Natal-RN

The research covers the context of the environmental crisis and its consequences for populations using the urban beach space, analyzing the impacts of climate change that are divided into direct - sea level rise, forcing the withdrawal / retreat of coastal dwellings and infrastructures coastal erosion, flooding by transposition of waves and tsunamis; and indirect - generating obstruction of canal mouths, saline intrusion into internal fresh water bodies and their consequent scarcity. In addition, it studies the mechanisms for dealing with the resolution of this problem by the State, market and civil society. Today, the basic problems are the delay of basic sanitation solutions and the lack of preparation for the climate change events, configuring two socio-environmental threats and consequences for the families that live of economic activities in this environment and regulars. The general objective is to analyze how the expressions of the socioenvironmental question are felt by the population of the urban beaches of Natal/RN. The specific objectives are: a) to carry out the diagnosis of socio-environmental vulnerabilities in the urban beaches of Natal/RN; b) understand how social actors are adapting to climate change in the beach space; and c) verify if strategies are being implemented to protect and supervise Natal/RN beaches. The research approach is qualitative and exploratory, being carried out through documentary and field research, with semi - structured interviews and application of questionnaires by sampling with social actors that interfere in the beach dynamics. The case study covers two Natal/RN beaches: Ponta Negra and Redinha, chosen because they are beaches that consistently exhibit above-permitted balneability rates, suffer from climate change processes, and are strategically used by various socioeconomic actors as a source of income. The study may reveal the current reality, seeking to understand the dynamics of the socio-environmental issue and to subsidize actions of the public power in the improvement of the management and participation by the competent bodies regarding the preservation of the beach space. |
