THE HOUSE AS ASSETS: THE STRATEGIES OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE PROGRAM MINHA CASA MINHA VIDA - 1 AT RMNATAL / BRASIL

In order to stay alive, human beings need to meet certain basic needs which will help their insertion and reproduction in society. The working class insert themselves in this scenario as a daily fighting population to be in the system and have access to goods which will promote their development. The “product” or “good” house highlights itself as one of the main needs, be it in consumption as well as production. The habitational good transforms itself in a social and economical asset. Countless are the strategies to gain access to houses and their transformation. It is emphasised, here, that the changes in physical structures of habitation by reforms, constructions and new ways of occupation and use of property make way to new income appropriations and/or risks decrease. In Brazil, since 2009, house access by the working class is promoted through Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida – Faixa 1, and some researches already report the existence of the different ways of house using in the complexes produced by the programme. Thus, the objective of this study is the comprehension of the different house uses and occupations, constructed by Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida (PMCMV) – Faixa 1, in Região Metropolitana de Natal, according to the inhabitants strategies regarding the use of houses as a promoting asset of social reproduction. The methodological procedures count on an organisation of a data bank, with information from documental analysis and in loco investigation, referring to the complexes characteristics, its inhabitants and the many different uses and occupations of lots and apartments. 943 interviews were made, through surveys, in all 33 enterprises of PMCMV – Faixa 01, located in RMNatal.
