RESUMO:

The potentialities of Rio Grande do Norte are abundant and known, but economic growth has fallen short of these potentialities. Vast coastline, with regard to its territory, constant winds, sun, salt, land adapted to irrigated crops, abundant minerals, are examples of resources that can turn into promising economic activities. In Mato Grande territory a striking factor is the “drought” and, from an early age, the residents of this region learn that they have to adapt to what this period represents: hunger, misery, animals and crops dying due to the lack of rainfall. The small farmer around the wind farms facing drought year after year and who is on his property earns a living for his family, often with no water resources, no access to technology and no expert advice able to help. them to change their reality and to envision a different future from what seems to be destined for the populations of these rural communities. Wind power companies have been contributing to the promotion of the development of rural communities around their wind farms, through the implementation of actions that benefit small rural producers, supported by the implementation of socio-environmental projects funded through competitiveness-oriented training. and sustainability of rural enterprises in the Mato Grande territory, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and the diffusion of social technologies, as well as encouraging good production and management practices seeking coexistence with drought and the creation of businesses with social impact. In this context, the wind segment is considered an important field of scientific research to examine whether this arrangement creates an appropriate environment for the adoption of sustainable practices, contributing to their local development. The basic assumption is that the set of wind farms installed there can stimulate the adoption of a set of sustainable practices - environmental, economic and social, leading to the development of the population living there, favoring competitive advantages and strengthening region. Given this context, this Thesis collaborates and guides in the understanding of the new forms of social relations, land use and occupation, social technologies for living with drought and the creation of social impact businesses, involved in this new production dynamic, responding to A central question: To what extent does wind energy contribute to the development of the small rural producer, understanding that social technologies bring together the necessary means for living with drought promoting the development for the assisted families of the Mato Grande territory of Rio Grande do Norte ? Or if social impact businesses promote the sustainable development of rural communities? This paper aims to investigate whether social technologies to cope with drought and the creation of socially impacting businesses in rural communities in the Mato Grande Territory contribute to the sustainable development of rural communities. With the conclusion of the research aims to identify the level of contribution of wind energy to the sustainable development of rural communities of the Mato Grande Potiguar Territory and aims to contribute to the maximization of sustainability practices, identifying the best operational methods with added value. and strengthening the competitiveness of small farmers.
