SUMMARY:
This research aimed to analyze local-regional television journalism produced by broadcasters that are part of the RecordTV affiliate system in the states of the Northeast region of Brazil. The driving question seeks to answer which locations are included in the news broadcasts selected in the nine states of the northeast region and what is the context of these appearances. Under the hypothesis that the distance between reported events and the headquarters of television channels influences journalistic coverage and, consequently, the social perception of cities. The theoretical framework that guided the study comes from the convergence between the Geographies of Communication (Moreira, 2012; Souza; Aguiar, 2016), studies on Regional Media (Lima, 2010; Camponez, 2002) and Telejournalism (Becker, 2016; Vizeu , 2005). For empirical investigation, the Content Analysis method (Bardin, 1977) is proposed for a sample consisting of a week constructed (Sousa, 2004) from these broadcasters' own productions, with the aim of identifying and analyzing their disparities in socio-spatial representations. It was found, from the analysis of the broadcasters' programs, that the local-regional television journalism of Record TV affiliates in the Brazilian Northeast presented concentration and rarefaction of news in specific geographic areas.
