SUMMARY:

Based on the concept of post-colonial cinemas, this research investigates the aesthetic-political movement of black cinema in Rio Grande do Norte during the last seven years (2015-2022). During the investigation, the “filmic constellation” method (Mariana Souto, 2020) was adopted to understand how the works relate to each other in a network, promoting “oppositional” discourses (bel hooks, 2019) in counterpoint to the “control images” ( Collins, 2019) sedimented by the colonizing white gaze. It is noted that in the catographed productions (Andrielle Almeida, 2022), there is a recurrence of thematic approaches that move between “popular culture”, “Afro-Brazilian religions” and “black motherhood”. In this research, the circulation strategies adopted by black filmmakers will be analyzed with the aim of recognizing the pedagogical character that these productions assume when delivering the programming of exhibitions, festivals, film clubs and online streaming platforms. Thus, it is intended that this investigation adds to the area of ethnic-racial issues and expands the range of Brazilian black cinema.
