BIG AREA: Ciências Sociais Aplicadas
AREA: Comunicação
SUBÁREA: Teoria da Comunicação
SUMMARY:

The present research addresses the making of childhoods lived in the context of the pandemic, notably the Coronavirus pandemic (CRODA et al., 2022; HALL et al., 2022), of global reach, which occurred during the last three years (2020-2023 ); this is a period in the history of humanity in which we observe a strong mediatization (FAUSTO NETO, 2008; SANTI, 2016; SODRÉ, 2002), in which the media acquired a reinforced sense of “window to the world”, ordering everyday life at different levels and through not yet known intensities; we are conceiving the relationship with the media and their culture through the theoretical concept of symbolic consumption (CANCLINI, 1999; SILVERSTONE, 2005), so that the media elements that the individual appropriates intertwine with others of his experience (BARBERO, 2006); we understand the media as a social entity linked to the construction of meanings, values and practices related to the individual's experience, to the fabric of ways of life in society, in its various spheres of socialization; we investigated how the experience of children's subjects in the pandemic context took place, in light of the intensification of mediatization processes in their routine, focusing more precisely on the consequences of these experiences in the most recent moment (post-pandemic); we stress a theoretical-methodological approach that aims to overcome manichaeism views related to children (BUCKINGHAM, 2012), taking them as active and competent subjects in the process; in terms of methodology, we used a qualitative approach, anchored in an ethnographic perspective (PEREIRA, 2019), using in-depth interviews as a data collection technique.
