SUMMARY:

The communication processes of the Catholic Church follow diverse and multidirectional flows, with the participation of various actors. Among these, in Brazil, the Institution relies on agents from the Communication Pastoral (Pascom), who act voluntarily in parishes and communities, carrying out actions of dissemination and community integration. The Pascom's performance is based on ecclesial documents, communication studies, and social practices developed in the community environment, based on four pillars: training, articulation, production, and spirituality (CNBB, 2014a). This research seeks to explain how the Pascom agents' participation in the Catholic Church's media communication occurs, articulated in a network, from a community perspective, considering the contemporary communication context, ecclesial guidelines, and the motivations of this agent to contribute to these processes. This study reflects on concepts related to community communication and participation in networked media processes developed by social movements, specifically within the Catholic Church, based on the contemporary communication context. The research is qualitative and carried out through a case study (YIN, 2005), dealing with the participation of Pascom agents in the processes carried out by the Social Communication Sector and the Communicators Network of the Archdiocese of Natal (Recan). The theoretical-methodological basis of this research includes reflections on community communication (PAIVA, 2003; 2007; PERUZZO, 2009), participation (BORDENAVE, 1994; PERUZZO, 2007; CARPENTIER, 2018), media and religion (MARTINO, 2016), and interfaces with Catholicism (PUNTEL, 2010; ALVARENGA, 2016; SBARDELOTTO, 2017; and ZANON, 2021). In addition to a literature review, documentary research techniques, analysis of media products, systematic observation, questionnaire application, and interviews are used. Based on the observation of the phenomenon, it is expected to delineate and reflect on this networked Catholic communication model from a community communication perspective and to point out perceptions about Pascom's performance and its contribution to communication in the Church.
