SUMMARY:

It investigates the communicative and folkmedia production of rap battles (rhythm and poetry) in the environment of UFRN – Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – Central Campus. To develop the work, we used bibliographical research, participant observation in the pre-pandemic period, internet research and an adaptation of transdisciplinary techniques (photography, cartography and textual analysis) to systematize the research results. As a methodology, we used an adaptation, based on symbolic cartography (SANTOS, 2002) and sociocultural photocartography (NOBRE, 2011), to represent, through a visual and symbolic map, the uses and appropriations of the university's living spaces to carry out battles of rap, as forms of communication. From the results obtained, we observed that rap battles appropriated the most diverse spaces and apparatuses to communicate, raising a discussion about the communication processes that constitute the marginalized groups of society, demanding more in-depth research on their communicative practices, including them as cultural manifestations of popular resistance.
