SUMMARY:

This investigation is located in the subject of Media Communication and discusses the context in which the socio-digital media play a central role in the development of practices and policies in the journalistic and cultural fields. The empirical object of the research is Blimunda magazine, published online and distributed free of charge by the José Saramago Foundation (FJS). A conceptual references linked to the ideas of "journalism as a form of knowledge", "cultural sphere" and "transnational activism" are mobilized to target the magazine contente, positioning it as a vehicle of cultural journalism, and starting from the historical intersection between journalism and culture The first empirical result indicates that the magazine produces knowledge about: a) literature; b) reading policies and incentives for public libraries; c) literary tourism; and d) on cultural diversity, multiculturalism and human rights, with a focus on transnational solidarity. In the eight-year period analyzed, the magazine focused primarily on: a) expanding access, financing and encouraging reading; b) a continuous, specialized and collaborative journalistic coverage of an Ibero-American circuit of literary festivals and fairs; c) the promotion of literary tourism in journalistic and advertising content; and d) a number of initiatives to support the recognition of diversities and multiculturalism in cultural production and contemporary cultural policies. The online magazine is named from the protagonist of the book Baltasar and Blimunda, by José Saramago (1922-2010). Blimunda magazine was created in the emergence of media phenomen in the internet context, which are provided by a way of positioning itself in the cultural field based on technology, aesthetics and intensification of the transnational dialogue between public and cultural spheres that give rise to new themes, claims and ways of narrating. The dissertation seeks to understand the insertion of journalistic content of Blimunda in the network of activist practices related to the entity that publishes it, highlighting the textual forms, topics covered and consulted sources that are able to point out the FJS' journalistic agenda and, consequently, also point out to the potential in the dimension of circulation of Blimunda since its relevance in the outlined cultural and political context. In order to undertake such analyses, an authorial and interdisciplinary methodological path is built, under the theoretical perspective of Cultural Studies, which combines bibliographic review and cultural-media analysis with instrumentalization arising from thematic analysis.
