SUMMARY:

The present work sought to appropriate the theoretical concept of cinematic style, undertaking the analysis of the fantastic plot of fictional films from Potiguar, taking as a starting point the following film productions: Inácio Garapa, Um Matuto Sonhador (José Gomes, 2010); O Mundo de Ana (Wigna Ribeiro, 2014) and Lua de Fogo (Walfran Guedes, 2016). The path presented seizes the theoretical-methodological path of David Bordwell's (2008;2016;2018) understanding, for which style concerns the choices of filmmakers in historical circumstances and opportune time. We seek to deepen and supplement the analysis by viewing cinematic works as expressive works (of artistic language — symbolic and signical), by considering the traces of intentionality of the authorship (directors) and the solution of emerged problems. We also tried to contribute, from the studies of the super category of the fantastic plot —, which describes the mythical aspect of the elements synthesized as universal and of popular northeastern tradition —, identifying anaphoric (recurrent) and disparate elements in the subcategories of scenery, costume and staging. Thus, the main objective of the thesis is to understand the relationship between the filmmakers and their languages in the scope of contemporary fictional films from Rio Grande do Norte in order to perceive the recurrence of elements and techniques characteristic of a representative style of regional cinema, and to elucidate the existence or not of a characteristic dominant style. It is proposed, within the scope of this research, the connection of theoretical and conceptual bases articulated to the expression of cinematographic language that involve the concepts of style, aesthetics, public policies, technical choices, theories, analysis and language of cinema and art (Armorial Movement) (AUMONT, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2018; BAUER; GASKELL, 2002; BETTON, 1987; BORDWELL, 1996, 2008 2016, 2018; CARREIRO, 2011, 2019; COELHO, 2017,2019; CRUZ; SCKAFF; FILHO, 2016, 2020; IKEDA, 2015, 2017; PENAFRIA, 2013; RANCIÈRE, 2009; SANTOS, 1999; SUASSUNA, 1974; STOLNITZ, 2007
