SUMMARY:

In the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), as well as throughout Brazil, several experiences of alternative journalism has emerged from the reformulations in the journalist’s labour market. Based on this experience, we propose to investigate alternative media in RN from the experience of a Potiguar arrangement, the Saiba Mais Reporting Agency, answering some questions that contribute to problematize the chosen theme: how journalists organized in alternative economic arrangements of media corporations support their autonomy at work? how do they mobilize the communication devices at their disposal to institute new prescriptions for journalistic work? Do the formulated prescriptions in these alternative economic arrangements institute more democratic and shared relations of communication in the work process?  It was adopted as the main theoretical framework, authors working with the Theories of Journalism, such as Nelson Traquina (2012) and Felipe Pena (2008); sociology of journalism, such as Neveu (2006); and authors dealing with the world of work in contemporaneity in the fields of Philosophy, such as Han (2017) and Communication such as Roseli Figaro (2017).
