RESUMO:

This study examines how the printed newspaper Tribuna do Norte Natal accompanied the change of the energy matrix of Rio Grande do Norte, with the implementation of the first wind farm in the state in January 2004. For this, the publications are analyzed on the theme for the period from January 2003 to January 2004, using the Critical Discourse analysis as a methodological tool for text analysis and Barthes semiotic image analysis. According to journalistic criteria of newsworthiness and scheduling means that the study period was conducive to the promotion of wind issue in Potiguar media. The study shows, however, that the issue was underutilized and that the publications prioritized economic debates at the environmental agenda. It is understood that the editorial position of the Tribuna do Norte newspaper corroborates analysis of gramsciniana hegemony and power bourdiesianos fields. It is estimated that the absences and silences media are not random, but products of economic and political interests of the hegemonic class.
