This work aims to analyze disposable income inequality evolution and decomposition for Brazil between 2012 and 2019. Using information from Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua, inequality was researched for many income sources: income from work, retirements and pensions, income from government welfare programs, as well as other sources. The analysis is also based on population division by groups related to some social, regional and income-appropriation characteristics; and also by the Gini coefficient decomposition. In order to do so, two distinct methods were used: the decomposition proposed by Bhattacharya e Mahalanobis (1967), that allows the Gini to be decomposed in cases where there are Lorenz curves superposition, and the decomposition presented by Lerman and Yitzhaki (1985) to analyze the many income sources available. The chosen methods enable the evaluation of inequality behaviour and the way how it is associated with social-economic movements from alterations occurred during cyclic oscillations from the Brazilian economy in this time lapse. Evaluating the contribution of each income source to the total inequality and the way it is manifested internally and between the population subgroups, it is aimed to analyze, beyond the production activity oscillation, the effects of changes in economic and labour policies to disposable income distribution in Brazil in the selected period.
