RESUMO:

The purpose of this enquiry is to shed light on the main activities, and hence their impacts on the GDP, of the city of Mossoró. In terms of structure, one assumes that an adequate evaluation of these impacts should deal with as the following: a general idea of the subject and the main points, as well as its backgrounds, are contemplated in the Introduction. Further, besides the existing conceptual issues related to the history of the city, which are embraced, as far as possible, the way they are historically set down, constituted for the provision of the affluent activities and economic development. By the way, based on the standard literature, and in order to understand the economy and its dynamic, three activities are selected and described, namely: oil, salt and irrigated fruitculture. Then one analyzed quanti-qualitatively the Brazilian GDP, as well as the one of Rio Grande do Norte followed by the GDP of Mossoró. Taken together, the results show that the services sector, in absolute terms, has the most positive impact on the economy of the city. In-depth and detailed studies of the municipality's GDP and the place occupied by each of its activities are still rare. Thus, choosing a suitable solution to enrich the GDP variable requires an understanding of the socioeconomic scenario.
