RESUMO:

This dissertation aims to analyze the wage differences by gender in the Brazilian labor market in 2004, 2008 and 2014. The theoretical reference exposed is based on theories of human capital, of segmented or dual labor market and the theory of discrimination. The data base used was obtained in microdata nationalresearch of Domiciles (PNAD), the respective years. Applied the procedure of Heckman (1979) for sampleselection bias correction, the equation of Mincer (1974) for determination of wages and the decomposition of Oaxaca (1973) and Blinder (1973) to calculate the wage differential. The results of the mincerianas equations showed positive rates of returns to schooling, revealing that the higher the educational level of the individual higher is the additional income increase in the labour market. With the application of the procedure of Heckman observed that the fact of being Chief of the domicile has a positive effect on the probability the woman be employed and that the fact that the woman have achild aged between 0 and 5 years cause a negative impacton the likelihood of the same being employed The Oaxaca decomposition and Blinder, noted that for Brazil, throughout the sampling period analyzed the difference inincome between men and women still exists and remains in favour of men. The explanatory component revealed that the productive attributes were not responsible for the yield differential. The residual component points to the existence of discrimination in the labor market, since the attributes related to the personal characteristics of the individuals are more valued than the productive attributes, such as education and experience. Based on the findings, it is concluded that combating pay discrmination by gender must be more effective in the country in view of the existence of discrimination against women.
