PAGES: 32
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
SUMMARY:

Introduction: Patellar tendinopathy is a common cause of knee pain in the
general population, affecting mainly young amateur and professional athletes.
Patellar tendinopathy leads to functional impairment, which can result in
prolonged absence and, in a more advanced stage, early retirement of
athletes from different sports. Despite the ease and wide options for
searching information, Physical therapists have difficulties in the proper
management of this condition. Information overload, lack of time and
difficulties in critically evaluating scientific evidence are some of the barriers
faced by physical therapists for a conduct based on scientific evidence.
Objective: To develop an online toolkit based on the best available scientific
evidence to enable physical therapists to improve their skills in diagnosing,
evaluating and treating patients with patellar tendinopathy. Methodology: The
development of the toolkit will be based on the knowledge-to-action
framework and will take place in 6 stages: (i) definition of the toolkit content
through a literature review and based on the patellar tendinopathy consensus
statement; (ii) development of toolkit prototype 1; (iii) evaluation of the toolkit
by professional physical therapists through individual interviews or focus
groups; (iv) evaluation of the toolkit by stakeholders through individual

interviews or focus groups; (v) evaluation of the toolkit by patients with
patellar tendinopathy through individual interviews or focus groups; (vi)
production of the final version of the toolkit.
Expected results: It is expected to find good adherence to the usability of the
tool by physical therapists, thus serving as a useful and reliable tool for
clinical practice.
