SUMMARY:

ABSTRACT: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is defined as a multidisciplinary process that aims to promote an integral action of patients affected by acute events or chronic cardiovascular diseases (CVD). RC promotes functional capacity benefits, reducing mortality rates and improving morbidity of the individual's quality of life. The level of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) has been identified as the major predictor of mortality and as responsible for explaining most of the benefits of formal CR. The present study aimed to verify the magnitude of the functional capacity in the evaluation of the cardiorespiratory capacity in the short and medium term of patients who performed a formal cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and analyzed the factors correlated to such changes. This is a longitudinal retrospective and prospective cohort study retrospectively performed between the years 2015 and 2018 in the cardiac rehabilitation sector (CORE-HUOL). The evaluation of functional capacity by means of indirect measurement of cardiorespiratory fitness were performed before, immediately after CR and at a follow-up of one year and two years after RC through exercise test to evaluate the metabolic equivalent of the task (MET) and through the DASI questionnaire, to estimate MET during daily activities. These data will be correlated with covariates of the clinical file. Mortality and hospitalization events due to cardiovascular causes will be reported. We expect to observe at the end of the study the magnitude of the functional capacity variation of patients who completed the formal cardiac rehabilitation program through physical tests and questionnaires, as well as to seek the correlation of MET change with intrinsic and extrinsic factors to the individual allowing greater understanding of the behavioral capacity to predict more effective therapeutic strategies during the rehabilitation process and in post-treatment follow-up.
