PEDSQLTM ASTHMA MODULE - SHORT FORM 22: TRANSLATION, TRANSCULTURAL ADAPTATION AND PSYCHOMETRIC EVALUATION OF THE BRAZILIAN VERSION.
Adolescent, Asthma, Child, Validation studies, Psycometrics, Quality of life.
Introduction: The perception and the report made by asthmatic children and adolescents about the quality of life showed up to be reliable and relevant for the disease’s management. In the pediatric asthmatic population, validated instruments for this outcome are scarce and little available in other languages than English. Objective: To translate, cross-culturally adapt and analyze the psychometric properties of the instrument PedsQLTM Asthma Module - Short Form 22 for Brazilian asthmatic children and adolescents. Materials and method: Exploratory methodological study that will be divided in two phases. 1st Phase - Linguistic Validation through translation, back-translation, revision by the multiprofessional committee of experts and pre-test. 2nd Phase - Analysis of the psychometric properties through the application of the adapted instrument in a sample aged between 5 and 18 years, as well as the application of the same adapted instrument in a sample composed by parents/guardians of children and adolescents aged between 2 and 18 years, totaling a minimum sample of 224 participants. The sample will be recruied at a referral hospital in the treatment of asthma in the city of Natal. It will be made anthropometric evaluation, assessement of clinical control through the Asthma Control Test (ACT) and of the quality of life through the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ); and evaluation of pulmonary function through Spirometry. Data’s analysis will be performed using SPSS 20.0 software, with a significance level of 5%. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test will verify the normality of the data. The analysis of the contents validation will be made by the Agreement Percentages Method. For the construct’s validation, will be made a factorial analysis. The test/retest’s reliability will be evaluated by the intraclass correlation coefficient; And the internal consistency through Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The instruments and pulmonary function test will be correlated through the Pearson or Spearman correlation test .To compare the average score of the instrument’s dominion between different age groups and between the test and retest, will be used the paired Student’s t-test or Wilcoxon test. The cut-off point will be established through the ROC curve. Expected results: to provide in Portuguese/Brazil, a valid and reliable instrument to evaluate, from the point of view of children, adolescents and their caregivers, the quality of life related to health of asthmatic patients aged between 2 and 18 years.
