SUMMARY:

Drawing from the experience of the State University of Rio Grande do Norte - UERN, Brazilian state and federal public higher education institutions have a leading role in implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. This can be achieved through the inseparability of their teaching, research, extension, and management policies. This research aims to identify the challenge and ways of implementing SDGs in UERN's extension projects. The study will use quantitative and qualitative research methods to evaluate the implementation of public policies. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that evaluations of the implementation of the SDGs in extention projects could generate new perspectives for promoting sustainable development in the territories where higher education institutions operate, considering the strengths and opportunities in the light of the debate on the engagement of actors in the implementation of the SDGs and the construction of sustainable development indicators.
