This text of doctoral qualification proposes an epistemological rupture that places sound, sound perception, the ability to "hear-understand-know" (INGOLD, 2008) sounds, that is, hearing, as a sensory-perceptual essential for the apprehension of our object of study in the community of Vila das Almas, in the quilombo Saco das Almas, in Brejo/MA.This is an innovative research in the methodological field, since we start from an ethnography of sound, presented in the thesis, as an Ethnosonia. In addition to the bibliographical research, we carried out the immersion in the research field to apprehend the object of study. The general objective of the thesis is to investigate some sounds of Vila das Almas in two cultural manifestations, the drum of Creole and the bumba-meu-boi, in order to understand how the vocalizations organize the social, establish hierarchies and power relations, demarcate spaces and sociabilities, constituting – based on an ethnosonic study – a socioethnosonic picture of the Vila das Almas community. To carry out the study, we used as a theoretical reference: Molinari (2016), Zumthor (2001), Weber (2003), Simmel (2006), Latour (2006), Ingold (2008, 2023), Hall (2005), to mention some. As partial results, we present a socio-ethnosonic analysis of some sounds captured in two cultural manifestations of Vila das Almas: the bumba-meu-boi and the tambourine of Creole. Our hypothesis is that sonorities, as phenomena, organize the social in the community, influencing the choices of social roles played by the residents of Vila das Almas in the political, economic, social and cultural activities of the community.
