SUMMARY:

The Intangible Heritage Policy in Brazil was instituted in 2000. As of this year, intangible heritage assets are registered as immaterial heritage and it is up to the state to guarantee their safeguard, which ensures continuity, fruition and sustainability. The Festa de Sant`Ana de Caicó / RN and the Maracatu de Baque Solto were registered as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) in 2010 and 2014, respectively. The Safeguard Plan for both assets was structured to ensure the integrity of this asset. However, this safeguard plan is not fully implemented. If it does not compromise the enjoyment and / or sustainability of these assets, on the other hand, it shows that the commitment to safeguarding as a task of the State is not synonymous with effectiveness. The objectives of this thesis are to analyze the implementation of the Safeguard Plan of the Festa de Sant´Ana (RN) and Maracatu de Baque Solto, and the impacts for the Maracatu Cambinda Brasileira (PE) and the Festa caicoense.
