SUMMARY:

This dissertation Florestan Fernandes and the defeat of the democratic Revolution by the 1987-88 Constitution has the theorical and political thought of Florestan Fernandes about the brazilian Revolution as its object, focused in the context of the political and social transformations that took place in our country with the end of the military dictatorship and the promulgation of the 1988 Constitution. In this context, Florestan evaluates that there were conditions for the overcoming of the bourgeois autocratic pattern of domination in Brazil throught a democratic Revolution. By bringing back its study of the development of the bourgeois autocracy and its roots on the dependent capitalism caracteristics in Brazil, we seek to comprehend the strategic and programmatic content of its democratic Revolution proposal and the role of the proletarian and subalten classes underway, as well as the factors that implied on the defeat of the democratic Revolution by the 1988 Constitution. Finally, the contribution draft of this research means to establish a debate between Florestan, Ernest Mandel and Leon Trotski of their different approches of the democratic Revolution strategy and the radical-democratic program, as like as the Free and Sovereign Constituent Assembly facing the decomposition of the democratic-bourgeois regimes. Our hypothesis is that Florestan favored at least two conceptions of the democratic Revolution as a strategic and programatic orientation to the struggle against the military dictatorship and the conservative transition, depending on certain political conditions as like as the Division “of the above” and the level of maturity of the organization of the proletarian and subalten classes. Recovering the revolutionary thinking of Florestan Fernandes against the bourgeois autocracy in Brazil aims to contribute with the analises of the contemporary process of autoritarian reorganization of the 88 regime and with the responses that the dominated classes can give to the bourgeois “strength solutions”, which inevitably will took place on the class struggle battlefield.
