This research seeks to analyze the practice of the political line adopted, from 1958, by the Brazilian Communist Party, which privileged the democratic struggle, in the Brazilian University Student Movement, after the Civil-Military Coup between the years 1964-1968. To this end, the research adopts the methodology of historical studies with the object of collection and data analysis the newspapers and internal and official documents of the PCB, for example, the newspapers “Novos Rumos” and “Voz Operária”; and internal organizational documents, such as "Resolutions", "Statutes" and "Circulars", etc., found in private and public archives, such as the "Fundo Documental Nelson Rosas" and the "Biblioteca Nacional Digital". As a theoretical contribution, the bibliographic research adopts references directed to the theoretical corpus of the theme on communist political parties, in the works of Duverger (1970), Gorender (1987), Pandolfi (1995); about the Military Regime, as for example, Fico (2019), Júnior (2017) and Alves (1987); and, of student movements in the cut-off period of research through the research of Albuquerque (1977), Filho (1987), Goppo (2007) and Sanfalice (2019). From this analysis we found that after the Civil-Military Coup, the student bases, escaping from the control of the formal instances of the party, accused the political line adopted by the PCB as responsible for the victory of the military. Criticism of the communists' political line undermined their influence among the left, at that time, mainly among the student milieu, which opened the possibility for new perspectives of the left to influence students. Despite maintaining its role in the university student movement, the party would only regain its influence, in this medium, in the late 1970s with campaigns on democratic fronts.
