SUMMARY:

The work is the result of research that seeks to understand the role of the biblical course Rhema Prisional in the lives of women in prison. It is a qualitative research, focusing on a descriptive and analytical approach. Rhema is an interdenominational biblical school, supervised by the Verbo da Vida Ministry and has thirteen courses in penitentiaries in Brazil. The proposed discussion is based on the woman-prison-religion triad, on the theoretical and methodological framework of Social Sciences and on empirical research at the Regional Women's Penitentiary of Campina Grande - PB. We seek to establish a debate on the construction of the statements of the biblical course - which is based on the "Word of God" -, to address discursive practices and their effects and to analyze how women in prison appropriate discursive devices motivated by religion. We wonder about the effects of the prison environment on the lives of women prisoners, how freedoms and individualities are established in a completely hostile environment, how these women establish an ethical, transforming relationship with themselves, mainly from the insertion of religious practices in the routine of prison. The work has been constructed through a theoretical study by authors who dialogue with reality, such as Michel Foucault, Bruno Latour, Giorgio Agamben, among others, and documentary research in Rhema books, in magazines and in publications on the website of Verbo da Vida Ministry. Interviews and informal conversations will be held at the Verbo da Vida Church and in the penitentiary. We aim to build a “knowledge partnership” (LOPES JR, 2019) with the field based on the commitment to make ourselves understood, at the same time that we try to understand reality. Our sociological investigation seeks to analyze and contribute to the understanding of the modes of subjectification of women living in prison and to add scientific knowledge to the theories of contemporary forms of subjectivation and to public policies aimed at the management of the female prison population.
