RESUMO:

Since 2010 some Brazilian exhibitions have achieved the status of uniqueness, being recognized in international press vehicles by the apparent success of public, breaking with previous records. These events have come to be called blockbusters in reference to the box office success in the film industry, although the comparison between these two types of cultural products is not immediate. Even through a period of political, economic and social crisis, the realization and the various audiences attracted by them were kept motivating the interests of this research, which uses such exhibitions as an object to analyze their differential inserted in a wider context of cultural practices, marked by inequalities in the Brazilian case. Although this expository model is part of a history of mega-expositions, being shared by events around the world, its repetition in several countries highlights the tension established between global characteristics and national specificities. Although they exhibit the most diverse contents, these exhibitions share institutional arrangements between the State and private initiative, necessary for the financing and assembly of events of this dimension. As a result, the reception of these unique products breaks with the limits of the artistic making and inserts itself in the cultural consumption heavily based in the media and social networks. In addition to discussing the singularity of this object, this research also intends to investigate aspects neglected by the attention attributed to the number of visitors, questioning the practices and visions underlying the recent celebrity of these cases.
