RESUMO:

This thesis discusses the issue of violence committed against the elderly, more specifically, violence experienced in the family environment, which is often naturalized or even unrecognized. The choice of this topic was based on the observation of the increase in the number of cases of violence experienced by this generational group, even after the enactment of the Elderly Statute (Law No. 10.741 / 03), which criminalizes this practice and provides for punishment for who knows it, and even more, after knowing the profile of the aggressor, which in its majority of the times, is found in the children, grandchildren, daughters-in-law / spouses and spouses, which leads us to believe in an even greater number of underreporting, by the existence of the degree of kinship or relation of existing affability, which ends up making violence a daily experience, private, naturalized, and that often generates a self-carelessness on the part of the elderly person, for not having created their children or grandchildren well, or by failing to meet their expectations. In this perspective, the hypothesis is that recognition of violence, or even denouncing it to the competent bodies, occurs only when it is physically configured, or even when it reaches extreme degrees of patrimonial violence, and in both cases, the decision by complaint it is not the elderly person. The objective of this study was to identify, through the memory of elderly people living in groups living in the municipality of Mossoró-RN, real situations of violence (in) visible to them, experienced in their old-age condition, in relationships familiar, and as specific, identify the main types of violence experienced by the elderly person in family relationships; to know the causes of violence committed against the elderly and to verify the perception of the elderly in the face of the violence experienced. As a methodological course, it is indicated that it is an exploratory, bibliographical, field and analytical research, having as a study technique, the life history, and as a target audience, 20 elderly people who attend the Services of Coexistence and Strengthening of Links - SCFV in the municipality of Mossoró-RN, setting the qualitative analysis. The theoretical assumption is based on the perspective of Beauvoir (1990), Teixeira (2008), Zygmunt Bauman (2001), Giddens (2000), Foucault (1979), Bourdieu (2001), among others, through which confirmation of the hypothesis raised, when those so-called "symbolic violence" take place repeatedly and sequenced in their life histories, characterizing themselves mostly psychologically, negligently or patrimonially, but are naturalized or not understood as such , identifying also the existence of feelings of guilt on the part of the elderly, of the condition of violence experienced.
