RESUMO:

In the first half of the twentieth century, the region that progressively became known as the Northeast, began to lose economic and political visibility in the general context of Brazil, causing old social relations to fall apart. If on the one hand, the Northeast was in decline, in contrast, the Southeast rose. These transformations were felt and problematized by several intellectuals of the time, who were ordered on two opposing fronts. The first one was formed by the intellectuals of the region, who then became northeastern, this had a nostalgic bias towards the past, highlighting values and traditions of the agrarian aristocracy of the region that lost prestige in the economic and political scenario of Brazil. The second front, in turn, was marked by a modern and industrial bias that aimed to break with the past, especially with the old structures of rural Brazil. In this scenario, it is believed that the writer of Ceará-Minas Magdalena Antunes (1880-1959) can be inserted, having been the daughter of planters of the then, Ceará-Mirim-RN valley and, called in old age, to do Part of this project by Câmara Cascudo and Nilo Pereira. These authors were reflecting on the eternalization of the past of Rio Grande do Norte, linked to other writers at the regional level. In this sense, it is observed that the author, in writing the work Oiteiro: memoirs of a young woman, a memorial and autobiographical book, went beyond what was expected for the women of the society of her time, therefore, made possible the observation of a A certain social reality that was experienced in his childhood and which, through the threads of his memory, was eternalized through written language. The social reality presented by the author is that of the patriarchal society of the Northeast at the moment of transition from the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. In this sense, this work seeks, based on the autobiographical and memorialistic writing of Magdalena Antunes, to observe the representations of gender that prevailed in the historical context of the society to which it portrays.
