RESUMO:

Leprosy popularly known as leprosy, is an infectious disease, chronic, caused by Mycobacterium leprae, discovered and described in Bergan in Norway, Gerhard Henrik Hansen Armauer in 1868. The disease is the oldest of humanity emerges in Egypt for about 1350 BC, and India are found in the book Susruta Samita the first records of medical studies there are 600 BC Only in the 1980s discovered the cure for the disease, but today Brazil is one of the major endemic countries, with the Indonesia and India account for 80% of cases of disease in the world. In the country there is a predominance of multibacillary or contagious patients. As the Ministry of Health, Brazil has the prevalence of 20,702 and the incidence of 28,761, it is a chronic disease. Leprosy is of historical and social importance on which science must study it extensively. Disregarding these facts allowed leprosy continued to be heavily stigmatized making detection, treatment and cure even more troublesome. This thesis about leprosy intends to expand reading and understanding the analysis of leprosy, removing the issue from a purely technical analysis of health and increasing their contributions for Complexity Science.
