SUMMARY:

The Potiguar Basin, located at the eastern end of the Brazilian Equatorial Margin, has a tectonic
evolution characterized by a stage of oblique distension (with normal and dextral strike-slip
components) recorded in its synrift and syntransform sequences, traditionally associated with the Rift I
and Rift II stages, respectively. After the rifting stage, the basin experienced a phase of greater tectonic
quiescence, with the beginning of the first marine incursions, when the deposition of the Alagamar
Formation occurred. This formation, which represents the Post-Rift stage of the basin, has a complex
tectonic context that requires further discussion. This research aims to analyze a 3D seismic volume,
together with data from two wells, to interpret the structural framework of the Pitu area, in order to
support the understanding of the evolutionary history of the region. To this end, filters and seismic
attributes are being used, which help to optimize the data and highlight structures. To date, horizons
have been constructed for the base and top of the Post-Rift sequence, in addition to three-dimensional
mapping of the main faults that affect this interval. These faults generally have a WNW-ESE
orientation, dipping to NNE, to which antithetic faults are associated. It was possible to observe
domino-type arrangements and graben-type structures, in addition to reflectors of a divergent nature
filling the depositional troughs. The mapped faults are classified into two subsets, given their
stratigraphic relationships, one being predominantly present in the Rift I sequence, and the other in the
Rift II and Post-Rift sequences. Analyzing and interpreting the chronostratigraphic relationships of these faults, their evolution and the way in which the sets interact with each other will be of great relevance for understanding the evolution and tectonostratigraphic compartmentation of the basin.
