SUMMARY:

Carbonate rocks constitute the main reservoirs of mineral resources, however, they present a high degree of anisotropy and heterogeneity, with different types of pores and scales that challenge the industry and the scientific community. Digital petrophysical studies aim to obtain rock intrinsic parameters from image reconstruction and numerical simulation without compromising its integrity. The main objective of this work is to numerically simulate in 3D and obtain petrophysical parameters of five carbonate samples from the Jandaíra Formation, located in Lajedo Soledade, Apodi district (RN) in the southwest of the Potiguar Basin. The work begins with the pre-processing of x-ray microtomography images, with the ImageJ program. The images were acquired at a resolution of 35 μm and represent reconstructed transverse slices (Slices) of the samples. With the Simpleware ScanIP program, the Multi-Otsu method with six classes was applied to help separate the porous system from the rocky part and the background. The segmented files were imported into the numerical simulator Comsol Multiphysics, with coarse mesh density. The simulator adopts the finite element method (FEM) to perform its calculations. The simulated physics consists of a fluid in steady state, in a laminar regime, with density and dynamic viscosity respectively equal to 1000 kg/m³ and 0.001 Pa.s. The fluid pressure difference applied to the samples was 1 Pa, according to the literature. Finally, to validate the simulation, the petrophysical results of porosity and permeability were correlated with values obtained in the laboratory.
