SUMMARY:

In this study, geological/geophysical, petrographic/diagenetic and petrophysical data were integrated to individualize rocks with different oil-producing flow capacities in the Alto do Rodrigues field (ARG). The work included information from more than 800 vertical wells, 19 of which have rock data and conventional and special petrophysics analysis, and 7 wells provided most of the data being worked on due to the greater thickness of recovered cores. The implementation of a multi-scale approach contributed to the understanding of the geological aspects that influence the reservoir's production capacity. At the micro scale, for example, through the study of thin layers it was possible to identify and recognize clay minerals that occur obstructing the pore throats and, consequently, affect the permeability and productivity of the rocks. At the meso scale, the study of the cores in different portions of the field allowed to characterize the depositional systems that occur in the area, as well as to identify some factors that influence the entry of oil into the reservoir. Finally, on the macro scale, through the rock-profile correlation, it was possible to distribute the flow units defined to the other wells without rocks data, thus allowing the construction of sections and petrofacies models with geological and dynamic significance. In this last scale, it is possible to visualize the external geometry of sedimentary deposits and their heterogeneities, whose understanding directly influences the planning and development of an accumulation (for example, in the definition of the network of production wells and injection of water or steam in case of application of secondary recovery methods)

Flow units; River reservoirs; Terrestrial fields; Heavy oil.
