RESUMO:

Northern coast of Rio Grande do Norte is scenario of many industrial activities like oil and gas, salt and shrimp farming, besides it has a huge touristic and offshore wind power potential. In this region, in addition to the predominance of dry climate and high temperatures, there is a strong influence of tides that show a semidiurnal regime, with mesotidal characteristics. Wave regime shows predominantly east-southeast directions, with mean Significant Wave Height (Hsm) and Peak Period (Tpm) of 0.75 m and 2.14 s, respectively. This study uses numerical modelling to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative features of inner continental shelf hydrodynamic of northern Rio Grande do Norte (RN), in order to correlate them to the bed forms found at the region, more specificaly the drowned longitudinal dune field that extends adjacently to Galinhos, Guamaré and Macau cities. Meteorogical and oceanographic parameters from WaveWatch III (WW3 - NCEP/NOAA) database were used to forcing the FLOW and WAVE modules from DELFT3D, aiming propagate them along the inner continental shelf to the coast. Through Sensitivity Analysys we could choose the grid that resolved the most these bed forms, and so getting the best representation of parameters that act in the region, in order to observe what is the influence of them on the drowned longitudinal dune field and which regions show more vulnerability to the erosive agents that act there.
