BIG AREA: Ciências Humanas
AREA: Geografia
SUMMARY:

Reflections on geodiversity play a crucial role in introducing an innovative approach to understanding abiotic components within Geography, providing insights into the vulnerabilities, risks, and significance of these elements in the preservation and sustenance of nature as a whole. In this context, the present research emphasizes the negligence in conservationist trends concerning abiotic elements, particularly rock formations, with granite and sandstone, highlighting their importance and vulnerability. Therefore, the aim is to propose an evaluation method that considers pareidolia and values scientific and aesthetic aspects as central, focusing on two mountainous areas in Rio Grande do Norte, namely the Serrano Martins-Portalegre Complex and the Agreste Mountains. The choice of the mentioned empirical framework is due to the significant occurrence and representativity of the plutons of the Itaporanga Intrusive Suite (Serrinha dos Pintos and Portalegre Plutons, and Monte das Gameleiras Pluton), as well as the quantity of landforms associated with this lithodemic unit. For the theoretical foundation, classic works on the subject were consulted, such as Gray (2004, 2013), Brilha (2005, 2016), Panizza (2001), Pereira (2007), Reynard (2006), and Pralong (2006). In addition to these, studies by Piotr Migoń (2021, 2022) were also used, which raised the problem statement for this study. The adopted methodology comprised a literature review, cartographic material production, proposal methodology development, inventory, and field application. The results reveal the method's effectiveness in classifying geosites, emphasizing their singularities, as all 19 evaluated sites were considered geosites. By incorporating pareidolia, along with scientific, aesthetic, and cultural values, the method innovates in studying these unique landforms, filling previously identified gaps. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of history and cultural identity in local narratives, contributing to the understanding of Geomorphological Heritage, geoconservation, and geotouristic promotion. Therefore, it is an innovative approach that can be applied in various areas, recognizing these elements as holders of scientific, aesthetic, and cultural value.
