SUMMARY:

The aim of this doctoral thesis is to investigate the influence of the territorial configuration of infrastructure as elementary structures in regional planning in the Brazilian Northeast. Although the region has been extensively studied in terms of regional planning, gaps persist regarding the understanding of the relationship between public development policies and existing infrastructure. The research argues that infrastructure plays a fundamental role in the territory's dynamics and is crucial for regional development. It examines how infrastructure serves as essential elements that directly impact the effectiveness of public policies and how territorial configuration should be considered in governmental actions. To achieve this objective, from a methodological standpoint, the work will initially present detailed thematic cartography and propose an indicator system that, together, will support the development of coremas and a graphical modeling of the elementary structures of the territorial configuration of infrastructure in the Northeast region.
