SPACE-TEMPORAL CHARACTERIZATION OF WIND AND SOLAR ENERGY GENERATING PLANTS IN THE NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL

SUMMARY:

Due to physical-territorial factors, the implementation of wind and solar photovoltaic energy generating centers is notably expressive in the Brazilian Northeast. The promotion of such energy alternatives is a pillar in the quest for energy transition. In this sense, Brazil plays an important role, being the world's third largest producer of renewable energies in 2023. From this context, the concerns and motivations for carrying out this work are represented by the following questions: 1) How did the process of territorial expansion of such materialities? 2) Which municipality in the northeast (study area) concentrates the largest number of infrastructures, in implementation, of the two energy generation matrices? 3) What were the phases of this process of implementation of generating centers in northeastern Brazil? A priori, the research hypothesis here is that wind and solar power plants have different stages of implementation in northeastern Brazil and that they are subject to a space-time periodization. Thus, in order to elucidate this research hypothesis, the main objective of this dissertation is to develop a characterization of the space-time dynamics of the implementations of wind and solar energy generating plants in northeastern Brazil, having as its axis the geospatial analysis through the cartographic representation of the studied phenomenon. Therefore, from the geospatial analysis of wind and solar photovoltaic power plants, Kernel density can be applied to identify significant concentrations of installations over space and time. The methodological application of such a technique, combined with a proposal for space-time periodization, is an approach that allows a geospatial analysis of past and future events. With that, from the application of the theoretical and methodological criteria, five phases of implementation and start-up of such generating centers were obtained, they are: 1st phase pre-20th century; 2nd phase from 2006 to 2009; 3rd phase from 2010 to 2019; 4th phase 2020 to Jun/2023; 5th phase: centers under implementation. In addition, as expected results still in development, it is expected the elaboration of a case study consisting of a map of land use and occupation for the municipality of Sento/Sé in Bahia, in addition to carrying out field work in the same location. .
