SUMMARY:

The struggle of those affected people by dams occurs all over the Brazil, in some regions these struggles are covered by discourses and specific characteristics regarding their own dynamics. In general, the atmosphere of projects dam construction is made up of elements that are common to them. The voices echoed by the communities are forgotten in the official history writing, in which only the benefits and grandeur of the dams are taken into account, minimizing the negative socio-environmental impacts and the suffering of those affected. Living in a place that will no longer exist, the residents affected by the Oiticica Dam were able to undertake a fair process of occupation and stoppage of the construction, with the objective of guaranteeing that the water only benefits everyone. By breaking with the logic of environmental injustice, the voices sung by those affected revealed the existential connection of the residents to their place-territory. Therefore, the main objective of this work is: to understand how the construction process of the Oiticica Dam affected the community Barra de Santana – Jucurutu/RN, regarding its relationship with the current place of life and perspectives with the place of resettlement. In the search for this understanding, methodological steps were taken in order to capture the meanings of this phenomenon. Here, the researcher's role was to establish connections between the existing narratives and those that will be carried out by the subjects who experience this entire process. What has already been said, about the displacement of populations due to the construction of dams, shows the lack of commitment of those responsible for the works, with human rights and environmental legislation. Consequently, it is no longer possible to naturally face the arbitrariness and injustices that have already been committed and those that are still trying to be imposed on communities. By managing to deviate from the discourses that tried to relativize the environmental impacts and neglect their rights, the residents of Barra de Santana ensured the necessary achievements for a fairer resettlement and the clarity of having the fate of their collective future in their own hands.
