POTENTIAL OF CONTAMINATION OF THE DUNAS / BARRIERS AQUIFER IN BONFIM'S LACUSTRE SYSTEM
Contamination of Groundwater. Geoenvironmental attributes. GIS. Environmental Vulnerability. Weighted sum.
The search for water resources has always been a criterion for human development. However, the negative impacts triggered by the advancement of urbanized and agricultural areas in watershed areas, which should be treated as Environmental Preservation Zones (ZPA), demonstrate the importance of conserving surface and underground water sources. Based on the Weighted Linear Combination (CLP) method and map algebra involving attributes of physical, biotic and anthropic environments, in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment, the present work aims to identify areas with greater potential for contamination of groundwater in the Dunas-Barreiras Aquifer in the area of the Bonfim Lacustrine System (SLB). This source is located in the NE region of Brazil, close to the eastern coast of Rio Grande Norte (RN) and is used to supply approximately 266,879 people in the northeastern semiarid. The results aim to assist in decision making and contribute to the territorial planning of the municipalities of São José de Mipibu and Nísia Floresta, presenting areas where urbanization should be delayed, prioritizing conservation.
