SUMMARY:

The Mundaú-Manguaba Estuary Lagoon Complex, located on the coast of Alagoas state, in Northeastern Brazil. It consists of two shallow lagoons, Mundaú and Manguaba, covering an area of 126 km², forming a system of choked lagoons connected to the Atlantic Ocean by a series of narrow channels that cross a mangrove swamp, establishing a single outlet, which dynamically alters its position. This series of channels act as a dynamic filter, mitigating the effects of tidal oscillations in the lagoons. With the use of computational modeling, this work investigates the variations that occur in the hydrodynamics and in the renewal of the waters of the lagoon estuarine complex, due to the morphological variations presented in its mouth, in the years of 2006, 2014 and 2017. The results obtained by model were compared with data from the position of the free surface measured at two points in the complex, showing a good agreement.
