FULL VULNERABILITY INDEX IN THE LOWER AÇU REGION

Floods are due to events of exceptional precipitations where the watercourse exceeds its normal limit. This type of disaster representatives risk the population and the economy since the impacts caused by the floods are diverse, from the loss of lives to Change in the ecological cycle, as so loss of structures. The region of Baixo Açu – RN, suffers from the effects of flooding in flood years, requiring attention to mitigate and prevent these disasters. The prevention and mitigation of these events uses structural and non-structural measures in order to minimize both the probability of occurrence of the event and its consequences through strategic actions. An important tool in planning actions to reduce the consequences of a disaster is knowledge of the vulnerability of the population and the environment. Given this, this study will evaluate the vulnerability of the region Baixo - Açu - RN to flooding through the vulnerability index, considering social, economic, structural and response indicators.
