RESUMO:

Green roofs are devices that act as mitigators of environmental problems, especially problems aggravated by urban development, such as floods, pollution and microclimatic changes. Climate is generally the most significant factor in green roof efficiency, as it depends on rainy, dry, cold and hot seasons, interfering with vegetation development, maintenance and retention of rainwater. Only recently it has been understood that each country with different climatic conditions and building characteristics has to do local studies to identify the best components to the success of establishing green roofs. In cities such as Natal, affected by flooding during rainy periods, especially with extreme precipitation events, green roofs can reduce runoff, provide more green space and greater evapotranspiration, and are considered an economically excellent option when compared to systems structures . Thus, the objective of this work is to characterize the water coming from extensive green roofs and as specific objectives (1) to make a comparative study between rainwater and water from green roofs, (2) identify rainy periods and 3) to verify the survival of green roofs in the dry periods, with weekly watering, and (4) to evaluate the performance of three different compositions of extensive green roofs, in Natal/RN.
