Natural fibers in the textile industry have been highlighted, since they exhibit greater adaptability to new trends, being biodegradable, renewable materials, and versatile in their use. In view of this, Brazil, despite having an extensive richness of native species, still concentrates most of its national research on already known species. Kapok fiber, for example, has a marked shortage of works related to its textile potential. Thus, the present project aims to define the physical and chemical properties of kapok fiber, in order to transform it into a textile article. Focusing on the structure and properties of kapok fiber, the methodology presents the collection and cleaning of the fibers, followed by their physical, chemical and morphological characteristics, in addition to the production process of this textile article. The results make it clear that the yarn developed has low resistance, breaks and breaks. It is important to point out that due to the limitation of laboratory resources, it hampered the promising use in the production of this yarn. However, the results show that the thread suggests a promising path and demands more research time in order to obtain more tests in comparison criterion.
