RESUMO:

Cotton fibers have a cellulose base which, in turn, is the most abundant, natural and biodegradable polymer in the world, this material has been used in a wide variety of applications, including the hospital environment in hotel service. The hospital environments in the state of Rio Grande do Norte process a monthly average of 66391 kg of clothing, of that weight the total 27 tons correspond to the soils of blood, body fluids, medicines, and this represents more than 40% of its trousseau with high degree of dirt; consequently, the hygiene of such articles are wet processes and main protagonists in the contamination and generation of effluents. Emerging technologies such as plasma treatments are a solution for reducing gas emissions and water pollution, which can improve the efficiency of these resources in textile processing, resulting in multiple benefits. The following dissertation studied the deposition of a film, created by plasma treatment in the presence of argon and acetylene gases, with the aim of changing the hydrophilic to hydrophobic properties in the cotton substrate, characterized by contact angle, MEV, FTIR and XPS, observing the impacts of this application in the hospitals of the state of RN.
