SUMMARY:

The centrality of the subject in urban environmental heritage has increasingly expanded contemporary discussions on the use and appropriation of these spaces as fundamental in the maintenance and preservation of heritage. Essential in the dynamics of historic urban areas, the subject is investigated in this research from their emotions and cultural experience developed in relation to the listed spaces, which, by law, must also ensure accessibility, as this relationship is an intrinsic right of the subject and should be legitimate. In this research, the condition of access is also attributed to emotional and affective aspects that elicit a better relationship with the environment in the subject. Therefore, the object of study is presented here as the relationship between emotional accessibility and the preservation of areas of recognized heritage value, based on the observation of the use and appropriation of subjects in the Listed Free Public Space, under the central issue: How to operationalize actions for the preservation of urban environmental heritage that considers emotional accessibility as a potentializer element of cultural and affective experience in the use and appropriation of listed free public spaces? Based on this discussion, this research aims to contribute to the construction of methodological procedures for the preservation of urban environmental heritage that considers emotional accessibility in the cultural and affective experience of the subject based on the use and appropriation of listed free public spaces in the Historic Heritage of João Pessoa - PB, and as specific objectives: (i) to deepen, in the context of emotional accessibility and heritage preservation, contemporary concepts capable of relating these areas and supporting the discussions expressed in this thesis; (ii) to understand the actions of insertion of accessibility and heritage preservation that have occurred in the Historic Heritage of João Pessoa - PB; (iii) to verify the dynamics of the relationships established between the subject and urban environmental heritage; (iv) to develop guidelines to operationalize heritage preservation actions that favor emotional accessibility and, consequently, enable cultural and affective experience in listed free public spaces. As a methodology, this study is divided into bibliographic research and empirical research, adopting the case study as an investigative process in the Historic Center of João Pessoa - PB. The methodological steps involve: (i) bibliographic review; (ii) selection of interventions that occurred in the Historic Heritage of João Pessoa, with pointing out the subjects and actions performed; (iii) semi-structured interviews with managers of heritage agencies; (iv) application of the Cultural Significance Declaration instrument (heritage); (v) evaluation of commented routes, and (vi) construction of guidelines based on the analysis of the data collected and evidenced throughout the research. This research aims to expand the process of inclusion of the subject in the listed space and develop methodological procedures that focus on cultural and affective relationships experienced in these environments, in addition to the application of methods and techniques that reconcile the experience in urban environmental heritage and point out ways on how to benefit the use and appropriation of the subject, even with the limitations arising from the listed areas.
