SUMMARY:

This research aims to contribute with new possibilities for reading, understanding and representing the relationship between gender, sexuality and public space in the contemporary city, based on the subject's urban experience. In this way, the formation of territorialities constructed by dissident bodies to the sexual and gender binarism is investigated, carrying out an analysis of the appropriations in public space such as streets, squares, alleys, seafront and parks in João Pessoa. That said, a time frame is delimited beginning in the mid-1960s – the date on which it is possible to find, based on anthropology works, the first spaces played by this population. As for the end of the delimitation, it occurs until the present day in the year 2023. Therefore, the proposed analysis covers the beginning of the debate on the Right to the City until the context of the deepening of its concept. As for the spatial area, it is intended to investigate the queer territorialities formed in the city of João Pessoa, in view of the public spaces with the highest concentration: central area, beach strip and south zone area. For this, a series of methodological procedures were established, which are arranged in five stages of research development: (i) collection of data from a secondary source (construction of the conceptual theoretical framework); (ii) documentary research; (iii) definitions of the universe of studies; (iv) primary source data collection techniques (field observation, definition of the group of participants and semi-structured interview); (v) and, finally, systematization and analysis of observational data and interviews through cartographic production.
