SUMMARY:

Currently, one of the most threatened material heritages is architecture, mainly due to the lack of incentive to preservation, real estate speculation, human actions, bad weather, among many other factors. Some authors point out that the main causes of losses of historic assets are the lack of precise and clear registration, thus pointing to traditional techniques as tools that have become insufficient in the architectural record for the documentation of historic assets, both nationally by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), and statewide by the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of the State (IPHAE). Given the current scenario of losses in the historic-architectural heritage of our country, it is necessary to use new tools in the documentation of historic buildings, aiming at the improvement of traditional systems, since the current ones are slow and limited in the technical registration of historic assets. Thus, given the lack of a fast and detailed documentation system that can act in the management of the historic-architectural heritage, both on a national (IPHAN) and state (IPHAE) level, this research aims to use Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the documentation for the preservation of historic buildings, focusing on the popular Art Deco style buildings in the city of Patos, in the Sertão-PB region. To reach the objective of this study, the Design Science Research (DSR) research method is proposed, used in the methodology of Design Science (DS), which is a science that seeks to create new artifacts, in the investigation of solutions to solve problems and improve existing systems. Thus, the research will unfold in 6 stages for the development of a tool for architectural-historical documentation with the aim of improving the traditional systems for registering historic built assets; (1) Awareness: defining the problem and the first bibliographic studies (studies on the BIM platform and the relevance of Art Deco Sertanejo); (2) Suggestion: data collection and studies of the premises to propose a solution (develop the documentation tool, the template in BIM); (3) Development: create the artifact proposed in the previous step, justifying the choice of the tool for its design and how it will be evaluated (Template in BIM REVIT software); (4) Evaluation; detail how the artifact will be evaluated (the template will be evaluated using two methods of method artifact evaluation (DSR), descriptive and experimental; (5) Conclusion: finalization of the artifact, where the data will be analyzed, consolidated and recorded; and (6) Learning: contributions of the work. Despite the development of the proposed tool (Template Art Deco Sertanejo), the results are still being generated with the applicability of the template in the study area; therefore, the data obtained up to this point of qualification already indicate some of the potentialities of the BIM technology in historical-architectural documentation: the speed in the production of 2D and 3D animations (technical parts), and the ease of new updates with information for the documented buildings, as well as for the template created.
